Why is it that Steve doesn't mind the porn at his CURRENT ISP? He only complains when he gets yanked. -- "One will not have needed the Future Perfect in one's entire life" - William Safire. /\/\ a tt == mward@gte.net == Alpha Geek From mward@gte.net Tue May 20 08:05:19 1997 From: Matthew Ward Newsgroups: news.admin.net-abuse.misc,law.court.federal,misc.legal,news.admin.net-abuse.usenet,misc.legal.computing,us.legal,alt.law-enforcement Subject: Re: GTE.NET censoring usenet while publishing child porn Date: 20 May 1997 12:05:19 GMT Organization: GTE Internet Solutions Lines: 33 Message-ID: <5ls41v$1qf$3@news8.gte.net> References: <337bcba2.37430893@news1.ibm.net> <5lqh82$g40@dfw-ixnews7.ix.netcom.com> <3381112B.5160@lr.net> NNTP-Posting-Host: r2d2.gte.net Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Auth: 581B9246D5D60411D1460413 X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.01SGoldC-SGI (X11; I; IRIX 6.3 IP32) To: "Mike Sweeney remove !! to reply" Path: news1.ibm.net!newsm.ibm.net!ibm.net!uunet!in3.uu.net!206.229.87.25!news-peer.sprintlink.net!news.sprintlink.net!Sprint!news.maxwell.syr.edu!zdc-e!super.zippo.com!newsfeed.gte.net!not-for-mail Xref: news1.ibm.net news.admin.net-abuse.misc:31633 law.court.federal:1061 misc.legal:121407 news.admin.net-abuse.usenet:15620 misc.legal.computing:20701 us.legal:10256 alt.law-enforcement:109383 -------- Mike Sweeney remove !! to reply wrote: > > Sandra D. Pretty much true. However GTE did NOT cancel Mr. Winter's account because of WHAT he was posting but rather WHERE he was posting (in violation of newsgroup charters). > > > > No ISP should be able to cancel an account simply because it disapproves of > > what its customer says in a newspost, so long as the post is otherwise > > lawful. I don't know. But I certainly HOPE that we at GTE are NOT being "capricious". We are dealing with many abuse complaints about News, Mail, Web, etc. We are trying to deal with all of them in the same, even, policy-based manner. Mr. Winter is just one of many. Some are cancelled for email spam. Others for inappropriate postings. -- "One will not have needed the Future Perfect in one's entire life" - William Safire. /\/\ a tt == mward@gte.net == Alpha Geek
